This unit will locate contemporary New Media practices within a broader history of developments in technology and the traditional arts, tracing the evolution of digital media from the initial experiments in hypertext, animation and graphics to its current emergence as a new medium based on collaborative, distributed and interactive production modes. In the practical component, emphasis is placed on constructing and evaluating innovative form and content, and students will work with motion capture devices, blue screen technology and software to create virtual characters and worlds. The program will also allow for industry practitioners to contribute their expertise. -- Course Website
